Is It Ear wax

So a nice gentleman presented at my Ear wax removal clinic. Stating that he had purchased some very expensive in the canal hearing aids some 6 months earlier. But felt his hearing was still getting worse. His own conclusion was that although the chap that sold him the hearing aids  was a nice guy
                "He just didn't seem interested in me anymore"
And that  he was convinced that because he and his Wife. Although both in there 80's went swimming every day. That his ears must be full of wax.

First picture is left Ear. A quick hearing test showed that the Patient had Mixed hearing loss. But most of it being of a conductive nature. I would speculate years of cold water swimming has caused these growths,

Severe Hearing loss. Loose the "MASSIVE MOULDS"

Its always saddening when people come to my clinic wearing powerful hearing aids and huge acrylic moulds
with modern technology the use of these Occluding moulds should be a thing of the past. But week in week out I see people coming into my hearing center with sore ears and feeling bunged up. Ear Wax Removal

As a health care professional I am often asked this question
           "Nick if i don't use cotton buds how do I clean my ears"

The answer is easy if you understand the basic bio mechanics of what happens in your ear canal.
Why do we produce ear wax 
1  For Cleaning
2  For Lubrication
3  It's  Antibacterial
CLEANING 
                       The skin in you ear canal is like a conveyor belt it is always moving to the outside of your ear. The idea being that any debris.dirty,dry skin,hair will stick to the wax and slowly be removed

LUBRICATION
                           Ear wax has many moisturising  qualities to help your ear canal stay in tip top condition
If you keep removing it you will just produce more. and more !

ANTI-BACTERIAL
                                  Because ear wax is slightly acidic and is made up of fatty acids this help resist certain bacteria and fungal growths.

So there you have it mother nature has given us a simple device to transmit sound down. That if left alone in most people will self clean. So the next time you notice some ear wax at the opening of you ear canal. Don't go diving in with a cotton bud to remove it. The wax has been on a 9-12 month journey just remove with a soft tissue or warm flannel wrapped over your little finger

Resound Verso Success

This gentleman came into the Nick Chitty Hearing Centre stating he had a severe hearing loss and that he didn't think it would be possible for me to help him. He was wearing two large behind the ear hearing aids occasionally when he could bear to wear the deep full molds that made his ears sore. His biggest complaint was background noise when working in his busy pub - which was probably due to the fact that he was wearing over powered hearing aids and full molds with no vents !!! 

After a full diagnostic hearing assessment, we opted to demonstrate the new Resound Verso RIC Technology with no sound  domes fitted to deliver the sound. I thought would give him the best sound quality and helping to reduce background noise

You will notice straight away the significant reduction in gain (volume) to the target gain, and also the large headroom achieved with the feedback manger. even with no dome fitted whatsoever. This means the patient has a significant reduction in over amplified low frequency sounds and no whistling . His first comment was "After 10 years my voice does not sound like I have my head in a bucket" The patient also commented how light the hearing aids felt and couldn't believe how something so small could deliver such sound quality. When I rang the patient to see how things were going his comment to me was "I am happy to come in for my check up but promise me you wont change the sound quality"
