Is It Ear wax

So a nice gentleman presented at my Ear wax removal clinic. Stating that he had purchased some very expensive in the canal hearing aids some 6 months earlier. But felt his hearing was still getting worse. His own conclusion was that although the chap that sold him the hearing aids  was a nice guy
"He just didn't seem interested in me anymore"
And that  he was convinced that because he and his Wife. Although both in there 80's went swimming every day. That his ears must be full of wax.

First picture is left Ear. A quick hearing test showed that the Patient had Mixed hearing loss. But most of it being of a conductive nature. I would speculate years of cold water swimming has caused these growths,
They Are non Malignant

Music to your Ears

So I got this amazing comment from a patient this week after fitting her with some Resound Verso hearing aids

 Hi Nick
"Would have posted earlier to thank you for the brilliant new 'Aids' - but have spent the last few hours trying to catch up on all the music I've missed over the last couple of decades"

What has changed this patient hearing experience is not just her new Hearing aids. But the new accessory device from Resound called the Mini Mic. This discrete simple device means that now after years of not hearing music properly she hears very note. But not just music. Even when sat in a busy restaurant the mini mic will boost the voices you want to here. And help eliminate unwanted sounds
"WHAT SONG WOULD YOU LISTEN TO FIRST"
Resound Mini Mic

The ultimate portable voice and sound streamer

ReSound Unite Mini Microphone transmits speech directly to your hearing aids. It is a discreet clip-on microphone that helps you hear speech clearly. So you can enjoy one-on-one communication in difficult listening situations. Effortlessly and reliably.

The Mini Microphone also functions as a personal, portable audio streamer to help you listen to your iPod or laptop. Or for TV watching when you’re away from home - just place it in front of the speakers of the TV to stream directly to your ears. It's the ultimate portable voice and sound streamer.
If you would like a free demonstration on how the Verso range could change your life call   Nick   01793-530541   07557 053157

First day blues

So camp set up. spent Friday morning catching up with old friends from USA/Japan/holland Denmark to name a few. The gliders had made the trip okay and I spent a quite couple hours on my own getting them set up.
These gliders are British made. By Richard And Haley at
www.bowings.co.uk and are called a sabotage. There flying weight is 265 grams. You are only allowed 5 gliders for the competition. They all have there dimensions checked by an FAI official and then carry a stamp on them to say that they are legal but can not be changed. If it get windy it is possible to add up to 100 grms weight inside the glider to help it penetrate into wind.

Nick And the Japanese F3K Team
My wife Valerie had met the Japanese Team at the last world championships in Sweden. As she couldn't attend as my timer this year "Valerie San" Made the Team  a special Cherry and marzipan cake. Which went down very well. According to Yoichi there Team manger. "Thank you Valerie san we miss you"
Camp UK
So test flying complete at about 3 pm I was feeling a little tired. went back to the camper van for a quick snooze. Woke up 4 hrs latter !!!  think the 12 hr drive caught up with me. Team meeting tomorrow and some more practice

Nearly fell at the first fence !!!!!!

So last patient seen I dashed home to finish packing the motor home. I took some time over storage of gliders and then loaded another pilots kit. I was ready for the off. So with an emotional fare well to my wife Val i clambered aboard "Sammy Swift" the motor home and headed of to pick my friend and timer Lorry green. I had not got more than 2 miles down the road when the alternator warning light came on. EEeeeeekkkk Blind panic came over me as to the enormity of what would happen if I couldn't get to Denmark. As I drove home it crossed my mind that I had just had the camper serviced and a new Alternator belt fitted not more than a week ago. A quick inspection showed the new belt in-tacked but scrambling underneath with the van jacked up reveled a plug pulled off the alternator. Van fixed and back on the road in 20 mins.
We drove to Harwich Tuesday night, camped over and got the morning ferry to the Hook of Holland. the sea was like a mill pond and the ferry was half empty which was nice.  Then started the long long drive to Herning in Denmark.
Sammy Swift ready at the ferry port
Interesting but not as comfortable as Sammy Swift
I have to say they do know how to look after drivers in Europe.Plenty of places to stop and eat and to sleep over at no charge. Why cant we do that in the UK. Driving from 2pm till 11.30pm  uneventfuly  through Holland-Germany.   pulling up just short of denmark knowing we would have a short 3 drive in the morning.
I am picking 2 pairs up on the way back
We arrived at the airfield 11.30am Thursday morning. The set up is brilliant.WiFi - Electric hook up. toilets. Showers, and even a trailer with washing machine.Oven.cooker . And fridge freezer. Best bit is a chap drives round in a golf trolley selling chilled beer. Tomorrow I will unpack the gliders and start some practice.
               Cheers Nick

Off to the World Championships

Well the time has come. I am off to Denmark for the World F3K Championships. The F 3 What I hear you cry.  F3K  is the international contest class for radio controlled, hand-launched model gliders. They are limited to a wingspan of 1.5 metres. They have a launch peg/blade on the wing tip the idea is to throw the glider as high as possible. Good pilots get 200 to 250 feet or 60 meters.  And then stay up using thermals (heat rising) or any available lift from possible ground sources. Like tree lines or even a house if i get desperate.

So what now!!. 10/15 Pilots all launch on the timing horn. where are all stood in a 75 metre box there can be carnage, but not often. Then depending on the task chosen by the organizers we have to stay up for specific times and land back in the take off box for the time to count as points. sometimes there are multiply timed task and this is where the fun begins guessing how the other competitors are doing. I will have own Timer/Coach in my old flying friend Lorry Green he is a good timer as he can spot good lift for me from other competitors during the task. Its going to be a long 10 days. There are 26 country's taking part all with teams of 3 senior pilots and there is a junior competition running along side the seniors. But first the long drive to Denmark I leave on the 17 will keep you posted

Severe Hearing loss. Loose the "MASSIVE MOULDS"

Its always saddening when people come to my clinic wearing powerful hearing aids and huge acrylic moulds
with modern technology the use of these Occluding moulds should be a thing of the past. But week in week out I see people coming into my hearing center with sore ears and feeling bunged up. And assuming this is the only outcome for them. Now I am not saying this will work for everyone but surely we have to try for a better outcome. well we do at Nick Chitty Hearingcare

This young lady has a moderate to severe  Hearing loss in both ears  (red -right) (blue-left)
